THIS IS OUR FIRST

TONIGHT marks the premiere presentation of our musical production, CAMPUS THUNDER. It also marks the first major presentation of the newly organized Office of Campus Productions, established this year as a part of the expansion in the field of dramatics at the University of Bridgeport.

It is our hope and aim to establish CAMPUS THUNDER as an annual all-college musical show, each year presenting a new theme with book and score written by the students of the University.

More than half of the members of the cast make their debut tonight for the first time on the stage. Others need no introduction to Bridgeport audiences

Versatile Ted Williams and vivacious Priscilla Haslett reign as king and queen of our "character" personalities. Ted, a local Bridgeport Isd, was seen last year in not less than a half-dozen roles which varied from the charming prince in "Death Takes A Holiday" to the murderous judge in "Ten Little Indians." He is being seen currently about the city as Father Daly in Campus Productions' touring company of "The Valiant." Priscilla comes to Bridgeport from New York and is best remembered by campus audiences for her outstanding performance a year ago in. "Ten Little Indians.

Another featured member of the show is Sheldon Rose who when assigned to do "The Lonesomest Girl In Town" discovered a few days later that the number was originally written by composer Lou Brown for his mother, Anita Rose, back in the days when she was a vaudeville headliner.

Representing our leading lady of song is Doris Bauersfeld of Brooklyn who is attending the University for her first year. Doris has appeared in many musical productions in and around Brooklyn, and also on NBC and programs for the United Nations.

Another member of the cast who has contributed a great deal to our production is William sport's pride son. Stewart Baker. Freshman Baker, the guy with the million dollar personality, conies to the University from Harding High School where he was active in radio work and won laurels for his performance in "You Can't Take ft With You."

Not appearing in the production, but responsible for the choreography, is Judy Dembo, a sophomore at the University. Judy has been a member of the Lithuanian National Ballet, has been associated with the Connecticut Opera Company, the New England Opera Company, and the Pennsylvania Opera Company as a ballet dancer.

Another member of the company whom you do not meet personally, but who has carried one of the largest responsibilities of the show is our business manager, Everett Matson. Responsible for coordinating advertising, publicity, tickets and other loose ends of the production, Ev has worked unceasingly and will work many hours after tonight's performance seeing that accounts are settled.

Along with Ev, much credit for the production goes to Daniel Greaney, production manager; Bertram Arthur, stage manager; and John Liolin, electrician.

This is our first, folks . . . we hope there will be more . . . and we hope you will want to come again and see

CAMPUS THUNDER, second edition!

ALBERT DICKASON, Director

LASTING EVENTS & MEMORIES FROM
CAMPUS THUNDER
1947
"CAMPUS THUNDER Premier"

Played one performance to a half filled house-----

As the Campus Thunder genie would say, "So many years ago upon this earth a new show was given birth, campus Thunder was its name, premiere edition it was proclaimed. For old times sake we'd like to show some memories of that revue. If you recall it was quite a show, so back to the past we plunder, to 47's CAMPUS THUNDER.

As we turn the pages of the years gone by, we can remember the days prior to Campus Thunder '47, when we were doubtful whether a show of this type could play in a city that had panned so many top Broadway shows. We had practiced for months trying to perfect this musical extravaganza that was soon to take the city of Bridgeport by storm. Rehearsals took place in church basements, attics and old beat out rooms. We recall the first meeting of the students interested in forming a new organization on the UB campus. About 30 students turned out to fill the places of some 45 in the show. At this meeting our genial director and originator of the show, explained the ideas behind the Campus Thunder musical and its future success at the university and possibilities of touring,

, As we look far back into the past we still see the surprise on our faces at our first cast- party held at the UB stables (snack bar). We recall the seven curtain calls we got and we knew then that Campus Thunder was here to stay. We recall the opening number that has since become a must in every edition. The "Thunderettes" stole the show that evening with Sheldon Rose as Fifi doing the Tulip dance number and the "The Goodbye Fairfield, Hello Seaside Hall" routine. The laugh of the show was Ted William's pants splitting at Dress Rehearsal in a very serious scene and Mr."D" telling him to put it in the show. Our original genie was Ken Pierce. Doris Bauresfield and Ted Williams enchanted us with the original numbers "I Haven't a Chance" and "Sometimes, Somehow, Somewhere."

The most outstanding memory of Campus Thunder '47 was the introduction of the first University Alma Mater "A Toast to Alma Mater" by Al Dickason, and Joseph Luskay of the class of '49 that has since become the top song on campus.

Yes, all in all our first edition was a huge success to the University and the city of Bridgeport, Said President James H. Halsey after the show: "UB AND THE CITY OF BRIDGEPORT ARE PROUD OF THE OFFICE OF CAMPUS PRODUCTIONS."
