"CAMPUS THUNDER REVIEW"
Played 3 performances and one matinee (4 in all) ---
ONCE MORE FROM ALADDIN'S LAMP OF WONDERS we bring to you Campus Thunder. This next chapter in our book tells us of the troubles and trials of the third edition of the Thunder shows. We recall the sad moments that occurred when the star of the show, Gerry Baker, had some electrical volts through her and fell over unconscious during the dress rehearsal, but all turned out well for Gerry on opening performances Still another trouble on the opening night was, that the show ran much too long but the audience didn't mind it. Especially when watching from the beck of the theatre, we saw curtains flying all different ways. One columnist told us that we must have had electrical curtains flying! Remember how the wrong scenes were set up for the opening night. The audience didn't seem to notice it a bit, but we did. We recall other troubles we had, especially with the cast party when we had a free for all and party crashers at Champ's Shorehouse. The saddest of all was the death of one of the star's father the afternoon of the second performance. Like a good trouper, Pick Limbacher went on as usual for the rest of the performances. Good luck to you, Dick.
We also had some fun at this edition. The stage hands at the Klein refused to begin until Leo Broadbin went to find the key to the curtain. The show could not open until he found the key. Leo went from the upstairs to the basement in search of his treasure. This is a classical theatrical ruse.
Top scenes of the show were The Campus Green with the girls' football team; Nellie, a takeoff of the Vassar follies of 1927; the very impressive Honky Tonk in New Orleans done in Strobe light and Frustration Saloon with a takeoff of movie stars, not to mention the finale which kept everybody in applause.
Campus Thunder '50 for the first time turned away well over 700 people on its closing night for the lack of room, and Gerry and Stew Baker starred together for the first time; Frank Castellucci took over the coveted role of "Fifi" leader of New England's most interesting women. The Fifi strip tease, a must in the past editions, was soon to take its swan song in the fifty edition for the last time. Joe Litchen-stein took over the role of the Campus Thunder Genie, only to get hurt in an automobile accident and Boris Moskelanke took over his role for the final night's performance.
Campus Thunder '50 had taken the place of Campus Thunder '49. The Question going around Campus was..What happened to Campus Thunder '49?
